In the Plaza de San Marcos, Leon, we met to leave for San Martin at 7 am. The weather was mid-40s, but clear with no rain. After a day of sight-seeing we were ready to begin our pilgrimage. Along the way, our Spanish friends left us cookies and biscuits on their front steps, and fellow pilgrims shared their coffee.

Here we are at the end of a 25k day, approaching San Martin, tired, hungry, and full of our first blisters. The sun wasn´t too scorching, and a refreshing breeze allowed us to stay cool. Most of the day we walked along the trail of the busy 120 highway, with a few brief moments of natural beauty. Our first day along the
meseta was a taste of what pilgrims have experienced for centuries.

Great pix! Thanks for posting them.
Great blog. I look forward to your ongoing comments and pictures. I did the journey 30 years ago (but not on foot). I hear through the grapevine that there are some fabulous tapas bars along the way where international students gather each evening.
